Clinitox Diagnostix, in association with GrandeVerge Alpaca Supplies, introduces to Aussie Alpaca breeders the ZAP™ Alpaca Progesterone Test - a convenient, one-step test to help take the guess work out of your breeding program!!
The ZAP™ Test uses a patented blood separation technology which provides a reliable analytical result from a single drop of blood in as few as 15 minutes.
The ZAP™ Test is the first one-step, animal side test that can be easily performed by a farmer, breeder, veterinarian or farm technician. This simple, convenient and cost effective on-farm blood test will assist you to dramatically improve reproductive management in your herd.
The ZAP™ Test will be useful to breeders to confirm and monitor pregnancy status from the traditional 'spit-off' through the early and mid stages to ensure that a pregnancy has not terminated. Using ZAP™ reduces the need to 'spit check'. It will also enable reliable regulation of feeding patterns where subsidisation is required.
A ZAP™ Test result could well be used as a proof of pregnancy as a precursor to a cash payment to the owner of a stud male for a mating performed, or to accompany the sale/purchase data of a female alleged to be pregnant.
How Do I use ZAP™ Alpaca Progesterone Test?
1. Prick the Alpaca's ear and allow a hanging drop of blood to form.
2. Touch the test device to the drop of blood.
3. Allow the blood to fill up the fill line. Wait for the results.

We also currently have some 'dummy' blanks available. If you are coming to the AAA 2011 National Alpaca Show in Sydney during October 13-16, come and see us at our trade display stand and pick one up, or e-mail us for one to be posted to you. These free 'dummy' tests are meant to be used to display the sampling mechanism of the test device, so breeders can become familiar with how to draw the sample and how much blood is required to fill the test. We feel it is important that breeders try out one of these training tests before using a working test, and not to have to waste a working test if they cannot get enough blood the first time they try to use the test, nor to overfill and flood the chamber on first attempt.
Price & Availability
The price is still to be finalised due to properly ascertaining import shipping costs, however, is anticipated to be in the order of approximately AUD $15 per test and will initially be available in boxes of 10 tests.
